Mr. Beatty read Douglas Wilson’s Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning while a seminary student and the trajectory of his life was forever changed. The next year, he began teaching English, Latin, History and Physical Education at Mars Hill Academy (Ohio) where he would eventually serve as Academic Dean, Principal and Headmaster. He’s also served as a college professor and administrator at Grove City College, his alma mater, and briefly as the pastor of a small church for two years. His education includes studying English at GCC, Old Testament at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and continuing his counseling education through the Christian Counseling and Education Foundation (CCEF) where he has completed Level 1 and 2 coursework. He will be undertaking graduate study in Leadership at Gordon College this summer. Mr. Beatty is happily married to his college sweetheart and best friend, Lynnae, in 1993 and God has blessed them with four children, Samuel and Sophia (twins), Abraham, and Grace. He lives in Rochester Hills, is a member of New City Presbyterian in Ferndale, and is glad to see that the state “up north” isn’t anything like what his fellow Ohioans led him to believe!

Why I Teach at BCS
In their book, Foundations of Christian Education, Louis Berkhof and Cornelius Van Til write this: "The ground for the necessity of Christian schools lies in this very thing, that no fact can be known unless it be known in its relationship to God. And once this point is clearly seen, the doubt as to the value of teaching arithmetic in Christian schools falls out of the picture. Of course arithmetic must be taught in a Christian school. It cannot be taught anywhere else." What the authors observe regarding arithmetic is true of every subject. I teach at BCS because it is one of a growing number of schools that is committed to understanding the entirety of human knowledge and experience in the only way that any of it can be rightly understood--by learning to see it through the lens of the Word of God.

I teach at BCS because I believe that immersing our students in the truth of the gospel as well as the great ideas of our Western civilization is solidly preparing them to be bold ambassadors and future leaders, and I love coming to work every day to be a part of that. I am also grateful to be surrounded by the most supportive, encouraging, and dedicated colleagues and school families I can imagine. Teaching at BCS is a joy!

Why I Teach at BCS
I teach at Bloomfield Christian School because when my husband and I were seeking the right school for our family, we found BCS to be the only school in our community where a student’s heart and character are just as prioritized as their academic success. It is so special to work at a school where you’re consistently seeing the teachers and staff guiding students and their families through situations using prayer and the word of God. Today’s culture presents children with an array of values that often conflict with Christ’s teachings. I believe I have been called to step into this issue. As a BCS teacher, I have the opportunity to partner with parents to help ensure their child’s identity is firmly rooted in Christ, to spark a love of learning, and to help them see education through the lens of God’s creation. Ultimately, this is an opportunity to shape the future by raising up confident, Christ-fearing, Christ-loving warriors!

With over 30 years experience in the classroom, I love seeing students' eyes light up when they are successful with a musical task. I enjoy breaking the language of music down so that even the little ones can understand what they are doing. Likewise, I'm thrilled when the students in the Rhetoric School no longer need things broken down for them; they can soar on their own because their musical language has become fluent. More than anything, I desire that each of my students would love Jesus passionately and use their musical talents to serve Him.

Why I Teach at BCS
I teach at BCS because I love the students, their families, and the people I work with. Through a set of circumstances years ago, God opened the door for me to become a part of this community and ministry as a math and science teacher. I have enjoyed watching the students mature and grow in their understanding of the world around them and in their faith and understanding of The One Who Is Truth Himself, Jesus Christ.
I also coordinate student retreats, camp, math Olympics, and annual ski trips. I enjoy the outdoors, grandchildren, and The Word of God.

Why I Teach at BCS
Paul urges believers in Titus 3:14 to devote ourselves to doing what is good in order to provide for urgent needs, and not live unproductive lives. I work at BCS to train in being a generous, faithful, and willing steward of the life which my extravagant Lord gives me!

Why I Teach at BCS
When I came to faith in my 30s, I was already an educator and a homeschooling mother. As I sought to figure out what it meant to bring up my children "in the discipline and instruction of the Lord," I discovered the classical Christian method. The classical Christian model intuitively appealed to me, but it was not until I began homeschooling my children classically and then teaching at a classical Christian homeschool co-op that the beauty of the method really became clear. The acknowledgement of God as the source of all truth, the integration of subjects, and the focus on training affections not only guided how I taught but also allowed me to redeem my own education as I homeschooled my children. History and literature and math and science become so much richer and more beautiful when studied with God as both the foundation and the end. I am excited to continue to teach (and learn!) here at BCS.

Why I Teach at BCS
I teach at BCS because, coming from a public-school background, I was awestruck when I saw the classical Christian approach put in place. I am amazed when observing the upperclassman truly know, discern and apply truth using scripture. My heart melts watching my own children form a love for learning and how the youngest of students are trained in obedience to serve as bold and obedient ambassadors for Christ.
