In their book, Foundations of Christian Education, Louis Berkhof and Cornelius Van Til write this: "The ground for the necessity of Christian schools lies in this very thing, that no fact can be known unless it be known in its relationship to God. And once this point is clearly seen, the doubt as to the value of teaching arithmetic in Christian schools falls out of the picture. Of course arithmetic must be taught in a Christian school. It cannot be taught anywhere else." What the authors observe regarding arithmetic is true of every subject. I teach at BCS because it is one of a growing number of schools that is committed to understanding the entirety of human knowledge and experience in the only way that any of it can be rightly understood--by learning to see it through the lens of the Word of God.
"Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this--that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD." (Jeremiah 9:23-24)
