Why I Teach at BCS

I teach in the humanities at Bloomfield Christian School because I long to, as T.S. Eliot puts it, “redeem the time”. I teach students to write essays and conduct conversations in which they ask the perennial questions: what is love, justice, the good life, the best regime? As students encounter the sources of philosophical and historical truth in the West, they learn to give thanks for providence and conserve their cultural inheritance. Justin Martyr’s apology, Bede’s English history, Russell Kirk’s intellectual history all enrich my life and thought and I am privileged to share these treasures with my students.

I also officiate chapel services, judge speech meet, assist senior thesis, and host Samuel Johnson Society.

Favorite Bible Verse

Revelation 21:5 – “And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
